How we handle your data
Your bill is personal. Here's exactly what happens to it, in plain English.
The short version
- Your bill is sent to Anthropic's AI service to read the charges (Anthropic's privacy policy).
- BillBounty doesn't intentionally store your file or your results. They're processed in memory, then discarded.
- The AI is instructed to leave out names, addresses, and account and phone numbers, and long numbers are masked.
- Our anonymous usage stats never include bill contents.
- Only upload a bill you're authorized to share.
What happens to your bill
You upload one file
It goes to our server over an encrypted connection and is held in memory only while your request is processed.
The charges are read
The file and a fixed set of instructions are sent to Anthropic's AI service, which lists and categorizes the charges.
We do the math
Our own code adds up your service cost and compares it with our plan list. The AI does no arithmetic we rely on.
Results go to your browser only
We don't write your file or results to disk, a database or file storage. Refresh the page and they're gone. There's no account and no saved history.
Who reads your bill
BillBounty uses Anthropic's AI service to read bills, so Anthropic receives your file to process it. We can't make promises about how Anthropic handles data beyond what it publishes, so please read Anthropic's privacy policy.
Personal details
Your results show charge categories and amounts, such as “Line 2 plan”. The AI is instructed not to pull out names, addresses, account numbers, full phone numbers or payment details. As a backstop, any long run of digits is masked before results reach your screen.
Anonymous usage stats
To learn whether BillBounty is useful, we record anonymous events such as “results shown” or “plan link clicked”. A random session ID cookie links the steps of one visit. Events can include the carrier name, line count, file type, a rough file size and rounded savings amounts.
They never include your file, the text of your bill, line-item descriptions or personal details.
Plan links
“View this plan” briefly passes through BillBounty so we can count the click, then takes you to the provider's own website. Nothing from your bill is sent to the provider. If a link ever earns us a commission, we say so right next to it.
